Crunching uses a lot of the CPU. Does this neccisarly mean when trying to play games, it will freeze or generate a labyrinth of ugly error messages?

No, i play games all the time and never shut down boinc. :)

Have done 250 hours on CoD4, and never had a problem. Crunching takes second place to all other tasks. ;)

Processor:
50% BOINC
50% Games

Fraps says 28-20 FPS
Game speed is optimal.
Game: Star Wars Battlefront 2

What do you think of these statistics?

What games were they? Were they "Highly Explosive" or "Shoot them Up" or "BOOM Warfare"?

Those frame rates are crap , time to upgrade some parts of your pc . I get average frame rates of 141 in COD 1 on my crappy system .

BOINC uses spare CPU cycles, so if you are playing a game you lose no performance at all.

Boinc has no impact on anything you do on your system. It is of low priority, it will only use CPU cycles that are doing nothing. It is, however, a great tool to measure the efficiency of any HSF. ;)

:( WAAAAA!
There is nothing I can do, My family still have a load of Christmas Bills to pay off, then need to buy a replacement iPod Nano 1G battery after it went in the wash. My Graphic card is outdated, but I can't update now.
Furthermore, which ATI Graphic Card under £50 would you recommend?

Which graphics card do you have at the moment? If you are getting 30FPS in Star Wars Battlefront 2 that isn't too bad - the time to upgrade is when it can't run games that you want to ;)

The idea is, is that BOINC uses only spare cycles and gives priority to any other program wanting access.

The reality is BOINC did actually interfere with Call Of Duty 2 online for me on one machine.

Only on one machine though and only with this one game.

Bit of a one-off I suspect but worth mentioning.

Fourth one is great. Fith one is the worst. nVidea geForece ALWAYS gives me "[Gamename] has encounted a problem and needs to close!!!!!!!!!!!!" I HATE NVIDEA! Never going anywhere near them again.
Sorry but that will be your pc not the nvidia software. ;)

NV Drivers are much better than ATI's imo

IMO, AMD is much better than Intel, and ATI is much better than nVidea. GeForce is the worst nVidea i've used.
lol, Who's Nvidea?

Nvidia is the best bang for buck atm. Go read some reviews/benchmarks. ;)

Well why do nVideia always give me errors when I try to play games on GeForce GPUs?
So I stand by what I say. I like ATI better because none of my games run slow on it and they are a company of AMD. That's why I like them better.
