Hi there,
Helping a friend get a 2 year old HP updated. Got all XP updates, tried to
install OfficeXP (all legal). Had to install MDAC 2.8 then install Office
XP. Now getting popups saying registry infected (go to dlpatch.com or
win32win.com etc.). Seems like a scam or virus.
Any recommendations or advice?

TIA
Dan

Hi,

Scam. Download, install, and update AdawareII Personal (free from
www.lavasoft.de), then reboot into safe mode and run a full system scan.

It's AdAwareSE Personal, not AdAwareII Personal

Your friend's computer has malware on it. Go through removal steps
listed at the link below, doing everything systematically in Safe Mode:

I suggest you actualy READ references you post.
A google hit may not be proof of exsistence.

'Thomas Wendel' is correct, as is http://www.lavasoft.de/ , the publisher of
AdAware SE.

Your problem is you are running without a firewall or a good antispyware
program like Norton Antivirus. You will get these scam malware messages
until you correct the situation.
