Possible hijacking, how can we tell?

I googled sys sys98.exe, a file that was popping up continuously on
bootup in my uncle's laptop. It led me to a HijackThis forum post
that then advised one to go to a malware prevention and removal page.
I dl and ran most of the apps from anti-spyware to trojan removers.
My uncle's MSIE is still getting popups after all that. I'm going to
set up his laptop tonight to run everything again, but wondering if
after all that, posting the log to HijackThis is best course to go.
Just in case there are other things I can do before then so that the
log is as clean as I can get it. Something definitely is going on
with his IE but haven't been able to figure out a consistent cause.
Popups seem random. He had something called freepod from freepod.com,
a persistent nasty that kept coming up that might have been one of the
major causes of the hijackings, but we seem to have gotten rid of that
one.

Anyway, if there is another site to help besides this malware removal
one, pls advise. I'd greatly appreciate any help re this.

Thanks.

Hi StargateFan,

If you have run all of the malware removal programs and they report that you
are malware free, then you may only need to install a pop-up blocking
toolbar to stop the pop-ups that are happening now.

Another safe way to surf is to set your security settings for IE to High
(this will stop all popups but also rich web content) for the Internet Zone
and add those web sites that you trust (banking , microsoft etc) to your
Trusted Zone.

IIRC you posted your log to Aumha Forums and were asked to complete the
preliminary steps and then post a new log. Please do so.
