Hello,

When I open an excel spreadsheet and click on a cell, then want to mov
to a different cell, wherever I move the mouse, it acts as if I a
holding down a button on the mouse and highlights every cell the mous
touches. You cannot unclick it. Then I have to end task and close th
spreadsheet. In order to fix this I have to reboot. I have no idea wha
causes this. I also have a problem when I sometimes open a spreadsheet
the tabs of other sheets are missing. Can anyone help me?

Hi

A few options:
Check your status bar to see if there is EXT in the corner. This will give
the symptoms. Press F8 to disable
I've seen similar posts where the cause has been the Intellimouse that the
user has.
Check that you don't have a Shift key stuck down. Press them both a couple
of times to be sure.

Andy.

The status bar is the grey band along the bottom of the Excel program (just
below where the sheet tabs are).

Andy.

Hi Chris,
Take a look at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/ghosting.txt

F8 turns on EXT which can be toggled off by F8.
Appear in the 3rd rectangle below the sheet tabs.

SHIFT+F8 turns on ADD, which can be turn off by hitting F8 twice.

Which is how Excel is supposed to work, but if you don't have
those indications you have a problem that you can try to alleviate
by some of the suggestions on the above text page. In any case
you should not have to reboot to break loose. You should be
able to find something that works temporarily.

Try this step first,
In the Control settings, mouse, change the wheel button to Enter.
and report back after a couple of days if it
got rid of problem or which of the others got the best results.
Permanent solution would be to get the right mouse driver even if
they are not the mouse's manufacturer.

Afterwards you can take a look at what I've written about
the Status Bar -- which is not well documented HELP and
certainly not in one place.
