Hi Guys,

Am having ago at trying to fix my mates laptop. Compaq Presairo C700 Vista.

In short it will not go on the internet.

I get "the dependancy service or group failed to start"

So i google it and get told that some of the services required for the internet are not starting.

So i go into the Services control panel and try to restart them, i then get

"Error code 5 Access is denied" he is the administrator so???

Google suggests lots of threads for these problems but not alot of help, lots of peeps have had this problem since xp and now vista.

I have tried restarting all the services, tried system restore, tried the scannow option in the "RUN" menu and nothing.

Before i reformat his hard drive, any other ideas??

4 pack of beer or bottle of wine for the ladies on offer.

Right okay my fault didn't see the not VERITAS bit in your post, nope still don't work.

Okay so i had no other choice but to reformat the HDD and do a clean install of Vista.

From searching around the net it seems that Microsoft don't know why its happening and can't really offer any support at the moment.

There are lots of peeps with the same problem and a few of the solutions i tried worked for them but not for me.

At least formatting should solve the problem :) Not ideal, but sometimes it's the only reasonable way.

It seemed to be stuck in a loop for ages when i was trying to reinstall Vista, it copied files, expanded them then restarted only to do the whole process 3 times over, in the end i had to remove remove the HDD put it in a USB bay and reformat on my PC, then it worked.

I used a OEM disk i have of vista HP 32 bit, instead of the recovery CD he got with his laptop, used his license key and then went on to Compaq Presario support site, got all the drivers and it works perfect.

Super weird though???
