I see various frustrated messages about disabling Windows
Messenger. Some time ago I came across an instruction
and DID successfully disable this irritating feature.
I cannot promise, but I believe the source was at the
following Auburn site:
http://www.auburn.edu/oit/security/messengerService.html
I just now tried the steps shown there and got to the
point where it showed that my system is already
disabled. I will caution two things: (1) tonight it
seemed that, without intention, I skipped a couple of
steps and got to the point where one could
select "Disabled." (2) The description encountered
strangely said that this was "Messenger" and it was not
the same as "Windows Messenger," but the Auburn site was
clearly talking about Windows Messenger.
Give it a try and report back as to whether you were
successful.
Good luck at Good Riddance!
