Since I installed the MS antispyware beta a few days ago,
I notice 2 bits of strangeness. I wonder if anyone else
has seen them or can suggest a fix. W2k, sp4 + current
updates.

1) Occasionally, svchost.exe will crash on a c0000005
access violation. Looked in the MS KB, several possible
matches, all fixed in sp4 or earlier.

2) When I manually put the PC into "standby" mode, within
a few minutes it will pop back to normal. Going in a
second time, it stays there until I wake it up.

Thanks for the replies.

There was actually a third bit of strangeness I forgot to
mention. I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts,
CTRL+ALT+some letter and they were delayed from seconds ot
a minute in opening.

Had another svchost.exe crash, so I uninstalled the MSAS
program. Now the entering standby and the keyboard
shortcuts are back to normal and there has not been
another svchost crash.

O well. Thats what we get for using beta code. I will
just have to suffer thru Ad Avare & Spybot.

OK folks, here is the final chapter of my adventures with
MSAS:

I ran into 3 bits of "strangeness" after installing the
Microsoft Anti-spyware beta on w2k sp4 ++.

1) I started getting crashes in svchost.exe. Searching
the KB turned up several similar cases, all were old and
fixed in sp4 or earlier. One and sometimes two a day.
When this happened, I could not disable my DSL line until
restarting.

2) I use keyboard shortcuts (CNTL+ALT+a letter) for
several of my desktop icons. They normally open the
application as fast as clicking on the icons. Now they
showed a delay of a few seconds up to a minute or two. No
delay with the desktop icons.

3) When manually entering "standby" mode, it would drop
out of standby within a few minutes. Manually entering
standby again, it would stay in standby until I
deliberately woke it up.

I uninstalled the Microsoft Anti-spyware beta and have not
seen either 2) or 3) since. I still was getting the
svchost.exe crashes but less often. I re-installed sp4
and it only installed a few files. No svchost.exe crashes
since When the beta 2 comes out, I will probably try it
again. I also use AdAware, Spybot, AVG AV and the ZA
firewall.
