Ok what do you think is the cause of this, built a new PC booted up set BIOS installed XP
Everything OK then shut down and, had a cuppa, started again BLEEP stopped! Now this is the funny thing never had this happen before, if I then push the reset button it starts, so I shut down again [NOT RESET] push the start button it started BLEEP then nothing until I push the reset button then it sets up as normal?
Have built about 20 or so using the same spec no problems!
PCChips Motherboard K7 M811 =AMD SEMPRON 2200+ PCU= 256DDR210 Ram crucial
40GIG IDE HD Maxstore

If you've built loads of PC's then you've no doubt already tested a few possibilities and eliminated them...so can you tell us what you already checked and know is not the problem? That will help us concentrate on some different things that may help? :thumb:

Have checked all the obvious things wiring connections= hard drive= bios= ram=cpu=etc: have put every component even the motherboard into another PC all are OK. Have Swapped all connections IE: reset= power= hdd= removed reset cables during bootup done everything I know of have had a break for now will try again tommorow just trying to get some ideas from you kind people.

I once had a shorted internal cable from the on/off switch, produced similar symptoms. Opened case, wire was pinched between front plastic panel and frame, shorting.

Other than that - I'd blame the PC Chips motherboard ;)

How many bleeps are you getting when you try to start up. Is it the normal single short bleep, or a long bleep, or multiple bleeps.?

Floppsy! I will have a look at that tommorow will let you know, the MOBO is ok tried it in another PC all was fine,as were all the components, have a feeling you may be correct!
Cache-man One Bleep just like it does when starting normally? very strange.

I'm kinda dumbfounded on this one then .The single bleep normally indicates that everything is initialised OK.
All I can recommend is to try and reseat all of the components...again! Clear CMOS, and then double check all your BIOS settings.
I would say to trial and error each component in another PC, but you say you already did that.
Have you tried just connecting the MOBO, CPU, RAM, and HDD, and graphics card - These are your vital components.
It certainly seems strange if you've built identical systems without probs, if your sure you got everything right though, it does lean towards a hardware fault somewhere.

Cache-man
Have done what you have mentioned, I am still working on it at the moment, it will not get the better of me, and I am a stickler for punishment ha ha! Have stripped it down completely am now in the process of a rebuild will not take long, WATCH THIS SPACE?
Floppsy it was not that!

Cache-man. Floppsy.
Thanks for your help.
That’s it DONE! Problem BIOS CPU Clock Frequency /Voltage Control =CPU Clock [over clocking] Maximum allowed 165 MHz Default133 Increased it from default in 1 increments until I achieved success that was at 150 MHz? [Tedious] Took it to 165MHz back to square 1, lowered it to 155 that’s it. But why not work at Default? as it did when installed MOBO on anotherPC.All the PCs I have configured had no problems relating to this strange to say the least.

does this board have a different BIOS version than the others ?
No all the PCChips K7=M811 FSB 266 Models are the same, the PCChips K7=M848A FSB400 are different to the aformentioned, I must say they are a really good cheap MOBO and apart from the problem with the one I have mentioned I will still use them for a low budget PC. Others I use are ASUS/ASROCK And the latter appear to be the same performance wise/spec and appearance I have not looked into if the same company makes them but it appears that way.
