We have a simple P2P network with one PC acting as an internet gateway to an
ADSL link.
We've been trying out MSN Messenger but have problems linking to an overseas
office [text is ok but voice is iffy and file transfer fails]
We are able to setup a link locally between 2 machines on our network via
Messenger and can talk and transfer files (i.e. thru the same ADSL link).
We've been told that we have to set up certain ports and have received a
list of what (TCP,UDP numbers etc.) but no* how to* and I hav'nt a clue as
to where to even start.
Should these settings be on the *gateway* machine or on the *workstations*?
Do we need to change anything anyway if the local setup works OK?
Surely Messenger should'nt be so difficult as to need a Msc in rocket
science to set it up?

Any help appreciated

Maybe one of the firewalls in the connection chain blocks some MSN
ports.
These firewalls can be situated on any computer in the chain: your own
machine or some some machine belonging to one of those white-coated IT
gurus in your companies IT dept.
some ports are: TCP: 389,522,1503,1720,1731,1863,6891-6901. UDP: all
above 1024 (big security risk)

google around with "msn messenger ports"
