Greetings All,

How do I block a particular port. I know that Messenger
uses ports like 80 but I do not how to block these ports.
Can anyone let me know the detailed steps to do this task.
I am using Windows XP Professional.

Thanks in Advance
regards

Do you want to block any communication through ports or just protect
yourself from unwanted net attention?.. Use of a firewall will block ports..
download Zonealarm (free) or purchase one of the leading firewall programs..

Hi,

If you want to disable windows messenger, see below.

If you have Windows XP SP1 installed, go into Control
Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows
Components and uncheck the box for Windows Messenger and
click on Next.

It is better to remove messenger instead of blocking the
ports.

Peter

It is better to run a firewall than to remove messenger.

Hi Friends, thanks for all the quick reply.

Thank you very much for everyone for all your great help.
All Help muchly appreciated guys!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually this is not the case. I actually needed to block
those ports because the users know how to bring back
Messenger by unchecking the windows component option as I
have the XP CD on my desk. I can't hide that but would
like to block that particular port.

Installing firewall is a better option but to some extent
it will not allow me use all my applications. I can
prevent them from logging on to Messenger through registry
but they know that too and that is why I want to block the
ports.

Any further help muchly appreciated guys.
You Guys are really great!!!!!!

Goodbye and take care. GOD BLESS U

If a firewall is set correctly, you should be able to use all of your
applications anyway.. running without a firewall is like having unprotected
sex..
