Hello all,

I am trying to set up a dialup connection on my Win XP
Home Edition pc. However, when I dial out I get this
error "Error 633: THe modem (or other connecting device)
is already in use or is not configured properly".

When I looked in Help for this error it said that I should
check the settings of the COM Port under Device Manager.
The problem is that the Device Manager does not have any
section named Ports.

My internal modem is configured to use COM4. Any ideas
about where I should look? Thanks in advance for any help,

- Brad

Here's a good place to start. Do you have any serial
devices connected to the computer, Palm Pilot's and other
PDA's are notorious for taking the COM port that the modem
would use. Do you have any type of communications
software on your system what so ever? I would temporarily
kill your startup group using msconfig, and see what
happens. If it works, that means there is a program
running that is taking the port necessary for your modem
to work. If you need help with msconfig, e-mail me I
listed my actual e-mail address.
