Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to port my Internet Favorites from
an old computer running Millennium Edition to a new
computer running XP Professional?

I know they're in the right folder on the new system
(C:\Documents and Settings\Mark Brown\Favorites), but
they're just not appearing in Explorer.

I did a search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base using "XP
Favorites" and came up with the report "Icons, Favorites,
E-Mail Messages, and Customization Is Missing After
Upgrade to Windows XP Professional" where it says...

___
SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade to Windows XP Professional, you may
experience one or more of the following symptoms:
....Your Microsoft Internet Explorer favorites may be
missing.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you created a new user account
during Windows XP Setup, and you are logged on as the new
user. Windows XP provides the ability to use multiple
user accounts to make it easy to set up and manage
computer accounts for everyone who uses your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, click Start, click Log off, and
then log on as the original user account that has your e-
mail, favorites, sound customization and icons.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
___
This seems to relate to my problem, but its RESOLUTION is
confusing. I have one user account, and it's not showing
my Favorites.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Thanks! Mark

You will need to inspect values that are in your Registry.

Under the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

you will find a string value for "Favorites"....

Check that it is pointing to the folder where you had your Favorites under
ME.

also under the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

you will also find a string value for "Favorites"...

Make sure it is to the same folder.

Please post replies to this post.

One thing you can try is to right-click the Favorites to make sure it
isn't designated as Hidden.

Incidentally, did you use the IE file menu "export and import"
function to bring in your Favorites?
