I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but here goes:

I run Win 2000 and a site called "portalsearching.com" seems to have taken
over my PC and I cannot rid myself of it and I can no longer see the joke.
Somebody said I
must have been surfing porn which is certainly not the case, I have done
nothing to attract this sort of unwelcome attention.

I have good virus and fire wall protection yet these very nice people got
through my defences - talk about gratuitous malice!. This is what I am
suffering from:

First I have an extra navigation bar at the top of my Internet Explorer
window directing me to portalsearch and all their pathetic web activities.

Second I have several short cuts on my desktop placed there by the same
people which even if I delete return the next time I use my In ternet
Explorer or Outlook Express.

So if some kind and knowledgeable person out there can suggest how I rid
myself of this lice I would be extremely grateful.

Baz,

This is not a virus, it is spyware. The two are similar in effect,
but spyware detection requires software with a different approach to
detecting hostile code.

For help, get Spybot S&D and HijackThis (both free), with help from
SWI Forums. Start here for instructions:

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Also look into Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. They have a free version that works
well with Spybot.
