I have a user who is having major printing problems. He has an OKI C5100
connected directly to his computer via USB. A couple of weeks ago, he began
getting error messages regarding the print spooler service, that it had a
problem and needed to shut down. Then his whole system would lock up. I ran
the reg hacks from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810894/en-us, which did
not clear up the problem. I also followed all the steps from
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm. This fixed the
spooler errors, but now the printer will not install. Windows states there
was a prolem installing the hardware and it may not work correctly. It
recognizes that there is a printer, it recognizes what kind of printer it is,
but Windows states it does not recognize the port. I have tried installing
the latest drivers and some old ones I found on the system. When I reboot or
scan for hardware changes, Windows prompts for an installation CD (which I do
not have), so I point it to one of the 2 sets of drivers. Device manager
shows the printer as being an unsupported device. Oh, and I've run Windows
repair also. I even have one of our SysAdmins on the case, and he's stumped
too. Any ideas before I reinstall the OS or make this a network printer?
Thanks!!!
