port forwarding problem

Ok I am stumped. I used port forwarding on my Netgear rp614 router.
But when I try to verify the port through GRC sight it tells me it is
stealth. I know that the problem is not the router since I tried it on
another computer and it works fine, port is opened. Both systems have
winxp sp2, they both have the same virus checker and both have windows
firewall turned off. So why am I getting stealth mode on one computer
and opened port on another with same router. I need these ports opened
in order to use VNC.
Thanks in advance

What ports? TCP Port 5900 and TCP Port 5800? Use this tool from the PC that you want to access using
VNC.

If you have port forwarding setup correctly and mapped to that PC's private LAN IP the test should
pass...

Hi

When using a Router, you can not open the same port to more than one
computer.

If you need to work remotely with more than one computer change the VNC
ports on the second computer to another value.

Look at this page (toward the end there is a description to how it can be
done): http://www.ezlan.net/vnc.html

Yes I am using port 5900. i also tried re-installing an image of my
old winxp on a different drive, which was working before. And it works
on my old winxp. Can it be that the router still is looking for
192.168.0.2 settings from my older winxp? Is there a way to reset the
router?

If your not using a static IP for the PC your port forwarding to then port forwarding on the router
will not be valid if you reboot the PC and the IP changes...You need to use a static IP on the PC
your trying to port forward to.

http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Consult this page for help configuring your version of the RP614 for correct port forwarding...

http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

You also might consider using VNC through a SSH tunnel for added security...

Hi yes I do hve a static Ip address, I connect to my ISP through
cable. I checked a few times my IP address after reboot and it has
been the same for the last few months.

Ok here are the last tests I tried
I rebooted into safe mode, shieldsup gave me the port as closed. Ran
TightVnc, ran shieldsup port is opened.
reboobooted into regular mode. Ran msconfig disabled all startup
items, disabled nod32 (virus software)service from services tab.
rebooted went to task manager did end process on a few more items. Ran
shieldsup and is still stealth. ran Vnc still STEALTH.

I also tried removing my router and connect direct, and everything is
still stealth. Besides windows firewall which is off what else can be
causing everything to be stealth? This is a quite new winxp install,
therefore not much junk has been installed and removed. It never had
anything like zonealarm installed.
Is there some software out there, which I can use to see what file or
service is blocking these ports from my computer?
Please help......

Ok finally fixed the problem after hours or troubleshooting. I figured
it out by removing all services which are not from windows, and
finally found that when the sevice from cisco vpn cvpnd.exe was
running that is when I got the stealth mode. After further
investigating I noticed that in the VPN client options there was an
option called "statefull firewall(always on)" by removing that little
%&^% checkmark whamo everything works great.
Thanks to all who helped and hopefully this will help others.
