Hi all,
I am new to networking and would like some advice
regarding the 2 issues ACL and Ports.

ACLS
Is acls something like a file whereby i can access and
make some changes ? If it is not, then what do i need to
do access the ACLS

Ports
How do i open or close a port ? Can i do it by configur
windows 2000 or i need to do some configuration to the
routers ?

The term ACL has different meanings in different contexts (e.g.,
NTFS files, Cisco routers, ISA or Proxy ports, NT registry entries...)

In NTFS it means a permission for a Security Principle (user or group)
to perform some access on that file. Similar to this are registry, share,
etc
ACLs on other objects.

[Note: Also Audit ACLs exist for writing to the security log when someone
access a file.]

In general, they are all open, so you first CLOSE (some or all of) them
and then you open them using that same method.

Closing ports can be done in several places on Windows machines....
1) NIC Advanced properties (trivial and simple feature for all NICs)
2) Using IPSec on Win2000+ machine (NIC properties or better
through GPO)
3) In RRAS policy/profile filters
4) In ISA (the add on Proxy firewall from Microsoft)
5) On non-MS routers (Cisco etc.) that offer such capabilities and
are used to
route in or out of your Microsoft network.
