Popup's are Driving Me Crazy

I have stop Popup's turned on, but it seems like "all sites" not require you
to accept their popup's or temporarily accept them. What good does it do
to turn Popup's off when every site you go to requires them. I usually
just do the temporary but in cleaning up 'add-ons" I found allot of
addresses that I didn't recognize to I disabled or deleted them. Is there
any other
way to get around the dreaded Popup's ? Thanks in advance for the help.

What (kind of) pop-ups and on which sites are you encountering them?
 
Win XP Sp2 - IE 6

The kind that come from being able to access a web site and those that are
just ads.
On most every site, seems like 95% of the time now. They always want me to
allow
all the time, but I click on "temporarily". I just don't want to caught up
with hackers,
trackers, etc.

How about those Phillies. Looks like they're going to go all the way !
I think the Ray's will too, but I'm not 100% sure.........Bubey

IE6 has a popup blocker?
 
But it doesn't work. If you don't say Yes to the web page you can't view it
!

IE6 has a popup blocker?
 
Well I would like to try to help you. i am assuming you are using IE 6 and
not 7. If you are using IE six got to www.microsoft.com and search for the
keywords windows+defender. Dowload and install this program on your
computer. It stops most pop ups. Next we need to make sure your computer is
clean from viruses, malware, and spyware which very likely is causing your
mass popups. So run a complete virus scan with your anti virus software.
Then the free program I would reccomend for malware/spyware is Super Anti
Spware. It is very effective and there is a free version at
http://www.superantispyware.com. Update the definitions and do a full scan.

Now one more piece of advice, go back to Microsoft.com and select downloads.
Every second Tuesday of the month a new version of a program called Windows
Malicious Software Removal tool is released. Download the most current
version of this and it will run and check your system for malicious software
and provide you with a report. Let me know if this is helpful.

If every site YOU go to requires popups to view their site then it's
your choice to continue blocking their popups to not see their site.
You can add their domain to the popup whitelist if you want to allow
their popups; otherwise, don't go there if you are going to block
whatever they require for you to see their site.

The popup blocker in IE doesn't block all popups, especially those that
merely look like popups but are actually within the web page by using
scrolling frames. Go to http://www.popuptest.com and you'll see there
are popups (which are actually popups) that IE's popup blocker won't
handle.

You never provided an example from "all sites" you visit where popups
are so severely present that you cannot stand them there and yet you
still choose to visit there.

BTW:
Configure OE to properly indent any quoted content so it appears at the
appropriate indentation level to maintain organization. It is needed so
others can see who said what.

Windows Defender has no option or feature to reduce or control popups.
Next we need to make sure your computer is

Would only be appropriate if the popups were NOT from the domain the
user had visited. The OP never mentioned the popups were from anywhere
other than the site that they visited.

Internet explorer on the other hand, has a fairly good popup blocker.
Tools --> Pop up Blocker --> Turn on popup blocker. Then go to pop up
blocker settings and set the filter level to high.
