Good morning,

since 5 days some laptops display a popup with a error on launching
application c:\winnt\system32\c.exe. All my Lan isn't touch but only some
laptops and one server.
MacAfee is installed on each laptop and I launched adware (full scan).
Nothing be found.
Somebody have a opinion.
Many thanks.

Goodmorning, fox;

Since this is a Windows Defender newsgroup, I should ask what Defender
reports... but you might also try the Windows Live online full service
safety scan here as a second opinion to McAfee:

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

and as a second opinion to Adaware, I personally like Trend's Online
Scanner:

http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/

let us know if anything is reported running full scans of your system with
those free scanners.

I done it.
With Onecarelive, it just found cookies
With Trendmicro, it found TRAK_MSNSNIFFER. I deleted it.

So wait and see. I come back to you tomorrow and will say you if it's ok.

Good job, Symantec ranks MsnSniffer as High Risk. That might not have
solved all your problem but it was a good check. Bookmark those two
sites... I use them once every month or two among other online scanners to
double check my installed real time protection against malware.

Good morning Dave,

now all seems good.
The trouble was MsnSniffer. I think to be find how I keep it.
Last friday, I done a "chat" with Hewlett Packard Technician.
During the starting of the connection, I showed a trouble on my desktop
(freeze). After the C.EXE message displayed.
This Spyware tried to launch the module C.EXE on the lan to snif "chat"
connection or other.
I will send a email to HP.
I will understand how the spyware passed my firewall too.

Many thanks again and have a good day.
