Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to configure Windows Mail in order to get
popup notifications in the system tray for incoming emails?

Regards

Hi, Juan.

Right-click the clock, then click Customize Notification Icons... What is
your setting for "You have new email"? There are 3 options: Hide, Show and
Hide when inactive. Hide and Show are static settings that don't really
tell us much. If it is set to Hide when inactive, it should show the little
envelope icon when mail arrives, then disappear when you read the new mail -
or after some time period, but I've never tried to see how long that time
is.

There are a couple of non-obvious quirks with the behavior of this icon.
First, if you Synchronize All, even if there is mail, the icon might not
appear until the synchronization is complete, including all your newsgroups.
Second, if WM finds no new messages, the icon might disappear, even if you
haven't read all the new messages found in the previous mail-check.

Thanks for the info. My idea was to get popup notifications for incoming
email without the need to execute the Windows Mail application. Maybe I was
asking too much...

Hi, Juan.

No, I don't know of any way to get WM to send a notice if it isn't running
at all. But, if it is running in the background, you should still hear the
beep and see the envelope icon, even while you are working in Word or
Quicken or any other application.

I believe there are third-party apps that will do this, but I haven't tried
any of them and I'm not sure they exist.

Windows Mail does not support this functionality, but I have created an
application which will provide you with a way to control Windows Mail from
the system tray as well as minimize it there.

You can download it at http://www.msblog.org/download/WinMailTray.zip.

Have a great day,

Right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar, click Properties, Notification Area,
Hide Inactive Icons, Customize.

I tried this and it only works when you ,go and open your email, and I
find one more thing wrong , I have to close my email, and reopen it to see if
there is any other messages, meaning if I leave it opened all day and I see
if there is any mail it shows nothing, but if I close it and reopen it ,
there the mail. Really whats my problem? thats inadvance
