Had to reinstall XP. Anywhere I point the mouse, I get a 2-3 line balloon
description of what the mouse is pointing at. How do I turn this feature
off? Been there, done that once. My memory is very good, but short.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

BTW, for future reference, what are these messages call in Windoweze?

Thx in advance
Dave

Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View. Uncheck Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.

Just to complement Doug's advice and answer your other question: The pop-ups
are known as 'balloon tips'.

"You can do it if you try."

First the good news - thanks for the replies and the info

Now the bad news - 'Show pop-up description . . .' was already unchecked.
Have checked/unchecked/applied, and restarted comp, no joy.

What to do?
Dave

Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View. Uncheck Show
pop-up description for folder and desktop items.
