Hey everyone:
I wanted to let the freeware group know that they can get a free popup
stopping program at
www.popupstopper4free.com.
I'm not an IE-user, but even if I were I wouldn't use this program.
The website just screams "highly suspicious" to me. The massive spamming of
keywords they are doing at the bottom of the page just reinforces that feeling.
They have about 18KB (!) of keywords down there.
I'd stay waaaaay clear of this and use something trust-worthy like Proxomitron
or Privoxy instead.
Also, it's adware.
From their FAQ:
"Adware? - There is no adware or spyware with our software. It is completely
free of additional spyware or adware."
I like that the word 'additional' somehow found its way in there. They've just
said that their program contained no ads, but apparently they make a distinction
between adware and adware. Just read this from the very same FAQ:
"Advertising buttons - Since we do not charge for this software, we need to run
a few small ad buttons on the task bar to help cover our costs. If you paid for
this program you would end up paying around $20.00. If you want a ad free
popup stopper, just send contact us and we will send you one. The cost will
only be $10.00. You can contact us using the link at the bottom of this page."
and this:
"Webmasters - If you operate a website that generates a large amount of traffic
and you would like to cobrand with us whereby we create a customized popup
stopper task bar with your logo on it. You then offer this tool to your visitors
to install."
That's just nasty.
