Hi, I am trying to download a file from a secure web site which relies on a
popup. I have disabled the popup blocker and even put the website URL in the
allowed sites but still the file is blocked from downloading.I have had no
trouble doing this using IE6 and Win98SE it only started when I changed to
XPSP2.

Hi, I'm another user experiencing the same problem running two web sites that
both have identical popup windows one site will allow the popup to appear the
other will not - have tried all the settings in popup blocker including
disabling it all to no avail the blocked site continues to be blocked and
will only allow when control key used - this is very frustrating. Have tried
many of the fixes that I have found on the web but none seem to work. A quick
fix would be very useful.

When it's loading press the CTRL key. If it loads it was a popup blocker
issue, if it doesn't then the problem is not there.

Quick fixes are for oil and lube jobs... Open IE, tools, popup blocker,
popup blocker settings, and add the site in question.

Hi

Take the point about oil and lube - but I've tried adding the site in
question but it still won't work !!!

Turn on Regedit.

Navigate to this branch:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows

UseHooks - if set to false, activex controls may not be able to open new
windows.
AllowsHTTPs - enabled will allow popups at secure sites
BlockUserInit - if off enables user initiated popups
BlockHTML Dialogues - disable/enable html dialogues as popups
ApplyToWebOC - popup blocking of non-opt-in applications

Any of the above could be implicated in your problem.

Have looked at this but not sure what I should be doing? Also the following
entries are not there:
BlockHTML Dialogues - disable/enable html dialogues as popups
ApplyToWebOC - popup blocking of non-opt-in applications

Hi Sandi, Thank you for this info but I am not too conversant with regedit so am not sure what the data values should be for each entry. deegee

Bottom posting is so irritating - conversation directions being reversed and
all that scrolling. Can I please ask you, when you reply to a top post, to
continue said top posting?

If the keys exist they will most likely be 'yes' or 'no' or '1' or '0'
(being number one and number zero). If the latter, setting to 1 enables a
feature, setting to zero disables.

Information about how to work in the registry:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q256/9/86.asp

If inexperienced, I recommend that you find local support.

pop-up blocker does not exist on my tools menu, or anywhere else for that
matter.

Hi Sandi

Hope you had a good weekend

The problem is that even though I have switched popup blocker off (or
switched it on with the sites in question set as allowed) the popup are still
blocked and will only appear when holding down the control key. This is a
problem as as a web designer I need to know that the popups will work
properly and I need to be able to tell customers how to make the popups on
their sites appear as they want them ie to appear without the neccesity of
holding down the control key (personally I hate popups but customers seem to
think they are a good idea).

Thanks for your assistance.
