You may want to look over the whole page.

If using AOL, you will have to get a Third Party Firewall. Check out the
same page - section on Firewalls for ideas.

Services and Applications then choose services. In the
right panel choose messanger and then disable it. Good
luck!

That is like patching a hole in a boat with gauze.

However, if he goes by your spelling (and seemingly hundreds of others) - he
will have no problem and will follow the advice of getting a firewall up and
going. It's "Messenger Service". I have no Messanger Service" and if I
did, I would suspect a trojan. heh

I use the free p/up blocker from this site
http://www.gasanov.net/PopOops.htm,
in addition to the google i.e. toolbar which has a built-in p/up blocker.
There's no conflict using these with the XP firewall.
Very pleased with both.
