Populate combo box as you go

Is there a way to populate a combo box as you work? I've got a field called
DonorName. On the first record, there's nothing in the combo box for
DonorName - I type in NameX. When I get to the second record, NameX is in the
dropdown, or I could type in NameY. If I type in NameY, for the third record,
NameX and NameY would both be available in the dropdown.

Is it possible? Could anyone give me specific directions?
