My Grandfather got wounded in 1915 with shrapnel they removed the shrapnel but in 1942 he died because the doctors missed one very small piece and it traveled through his body and pierced his heart. There are so many people who died after the conflicts of their wounds who never appear on war memorials. Oh and he was awarded the MC but that is another story.
