POP3 Problem

I've had nothing but trouble with all POP3 email programs on my new computer
with Windows Vista. Forget Outlook 2002, not compatible, out of service
date, no hotfix to remember passwords. Both Windows Mail and Mozilla
Thunderbird fail to authenticate my account with my web / mail host WinSave.
Actually, neither program has a problem with my email account that goes from
WinSave to Spamarrest (pop3 = spamarrest.com), but they both continue to say
that the login fails when I try to setup my email accounts that are direct
with WinSave (pop3 = pop.mydomainname.com).

I am 100% sure my login and server info is correct as I have another
computer with the same info running Win XP, Outlook 2002 and no problems.
Has anyone seen or had this same problem?

Are there any error codes?

Yes. I've edited out my personal info.

Windows Mail Error:
"Account: 'XXXXX', Server: 'pop.mydomainname.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR Login failed.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92"

Thunderbird Error:
"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.mydomainname.com
responded: login failed."

I know the login info is 100% correct. I am also waiting on a response from
my mail/web host. Note that I do not have this problem on any other
computers running Win XP. Only on the new one with Vista.

You may have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication", or "My server
requires authentication" checked, when you may not need to. Try to uncheck
one of these at a time and hit the Send/receive button to see if you get
that message.

Tools - Accounts - your account - Properties - Servers

Neither one was checked :(

Trend Micro PC-Cillin...came with Windows Vista. I've already tried to test
Windows Mail and Thunderbird while PC-Cillin was completely disabled and got
the same result.

Well it looks like you've eliminated most things but you ISP.

Who is it?

See if this helps:

1. Go to the Vista start menu and type cmd
2. The search results will display a program titled cmd
3. Right-click on the link and select "Run as administrator"
4. type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without
the quotatioin marks
5. Test your POP account and see if you can now download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, reenable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"
