Pop ups?

Weird thing.. I keep getting pop up ads on my laptop even without explorer
open. I have run adaware and virus scans, but they keep popping up. What
else can I do to stop pop ups?

What's really weird IMO is the idea that pop-ups are caused
by hardware.

I too think that pop-ups can be cause by some hardware After I
installed a usb controller card I had tons of pop-ups. We disabled the
card and problem solved. Strange but true.

You can stop running Windows Messenger.

You need to install a Popup blocker.

Um ... YOu might try Bazooka Spyware scanner (http://www.Kephyr.com) or
Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.spybot.info/) both are free; and get
*lots* of things like pop-ups not caught by most virus-scanners.
