Hi, i have got this massive problem with popups, even when i am not on internet explorer, i.e. on MSN messanger or playing online games, they keep coming up. Some have adverts such as click here to block popups, i am assuming one of the e-mails i recived has planted a bug some where and the only way to get rid of is to buy there product. I also have this problem that when i am offline then the comp. tries to connect to the interent. Can some one please help me!?

Thanks in Advance

I can't help you but I share a similar problem that has been driving me crazy, which is, various ads insist on loading when I first sign on. E.g., today an ebay search for software at the ebay site. Sometimes my privacy or other software block the ads partly, creating additional difficulty and slowness. Our problems sound similar; I've been having correspondence with microsoft over some other IE6 problems and perhaps they will answer my question. If so, I'll post here. So far, the advice has been to reinstall IE6 (not an easy task) and/or create a new user ID to avoid corruption in the old, which seems to have solved some of the problems.

Have either of you tried disabling Messenger service? This service is not
related to MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger or any other instant messaging
software:

Also please look into some kind of spyware/adware and antivirus software:

Spybot Search & Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/

AdAware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

AVG Antivirus:

All of these have free versions.

Thank you, I tried that and also uninstalled AOL instant messenging that my son had installed but almost never uses. I don't trust AOL - even when it is not running it interferes with some programs, and I only keep if as a backup on the rare occasions my dsl goes down. Anyway, one or the other or both or luck seems to have solved the log-on pop up program. I do use webwasher, another free shareware program that is pretty good but does not catch all the popups (the settings can be varied).

Or course, once one thing is fixed, another goes wrong - so know, when I first sign on, various startup applications like my antivirus software (Kaspersky) and Blackice don't load - if I log-off and then log back on, they do load. Strange.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
