pop ups all of a sudden

I have never had problems with popups until I recently
downloaded a patch from microsoft. I am even getting
popups though I have Stop the Pop running. It used to
block everything, but now I am getting popups. Someone
told me that this is a bug with the patch I downloaded.
The patch was to fix the problem with the computer hanging
when booting. Does anyone have any information on this
and how to correct it? Thanks.

There used to be virus that exploited the messenger service. What is the
text of the message popping up?
 
Did you download that update by going to Microsoft Windows Update and scan for
critical updates?? If you ran a patch that came as part of an email attachment,
then you may have infected yourself. I have several computers with all updates
installed from MS with no such problem. I would run an antivurus program on your
computer and a parasite remover such as SpyBot Search and Destroy. A firewall is
a must and the Google toolbar excels at stopping browser pop ups. There are good
firewalls for free for personal use. --- Steve
