Using IE7 and recently received the following "pop up":

This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Windows Media Player Core'
from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add-on and
want to allow it to run, click here...."

Now, I have Windows Media Player installed, why would I want to run the
add-on?

Is it a legitimate 'add-on' or just another malware program? (I DID NOT run
it!)

What specific web site are you speaking of?
(BTW - this is a newsgroup - no web browser necessary to utilize it. If you
are accessing it using a web browser, you could be using any one of possibly
millions of sites - you have to be very specific.)

This 'pop up' appeared sometime ago and I copied it with the intention of
finding out about it. Cannot now recall on what website it appeared.

I am accessing these newsgroups via my OE. Not using a web browser.

I put the blurb in about the access of the newsgroups because you stated
"this site" and there was a possibility you meant the Microsoft Newsgroups
via a web page - which could be many different sites.

That's the best explanation I have found. Sounds like whatever web site it
was was running something old.
