POP UP SOUND with No Notification?

MS Media Center can pre-installed on newly acquired HP desktop.
In previous version, Microsoft XP notifications had pop-up bubble & sound at
toolbar.

The pop up sound happens frequently after sign on, both while on or offline
at various extended periods of time. The problem is that I get the pop up
sound, but no notification of what it means. Are there system adjustments I
need to make?

hi jana if ur getting pop up dont worry and do one thing check ur pop
up settings in internet explorer or in firewall then u can find it
 
Perhaps you have assigned the sound to another system event? Check the
Sounds in Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel.

The bubble may only be visible when you are at your desktop, with no windows
maximised.
