Pop Up in PowerPoint

Hello all,...I thought of myself as a pretty knowledgeable user of
PowerPoint until this problem bit me in the buttocks (several times). I have
a customer who wants to create an org chart that when you rollover a certain
subordinate on the chart, detailed info pops up. When you roll off of the
subordinate's name,...the detailed call out tag vanishes. All this while NOT
seeing it in "edit" mode,...only show mode. Does anyone follow? I mean I can
create a box with info in it that fades into view as soon as the rollover
occurs,..but it reamains there when someone is in edit mode and it gets
pretty ugly fast with all of these boxes hanging around. Anyone? I'll even
take a visual basic code if anyone has figured this out before...

As long as you don't rely on using the PowerPoint Viewer, you can use screen
tips. Create a rectangle that will fit over the org chart box. Use the
technique described in #16 at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/quicktricks.htm to give the
rectangle a "tool tip". Then give the rectangle no fill and no line.

If you don't want a bunch of invisible rectangles, you can ungroup the org chart
and apply the tool tip, but that can be equally messy and the wizard can't be
used to do future editing.

Frankly, I don't use org chart. Instead I use the drawing tools in PowerPoint
to create the boxes, smart connectors, etc. That way the tool tip is easy to
apply to the boxes.

This might be worth trying>
Do the "ugly version" with all the rollover popups (after saving a clean
version
without the rollover popup boxes). Make the ugly version a hidden slide.
On all the Name boxes put a rollover link to the hidden slide (with no slide
transition on the hidden slide) so it looks like you're still on the same
slide. When you go to the ugly slide, your cursor will be over the name box
and the popup box should come up.
Next trick - how to get back to the clean slide - put a big box around all
the name
boxes with the same sort of rollover hyperlink to go back to the clean
slide. Place
this box underneath the name boxes (i.e. order, send to back). It should
work,
but I think I forgot why you want to do all this work to avoid having an
"ugly slide."

Sonia's idea is obviously very much simplier.
Don't forget to change the appearance of the
"hints boxes"

I did get my method to "work" but you need
3 slides - one hidden slide between the two with a time set to zero to reset
the text boxes.

But actually I missed something else - I can only get the text boxes to come
up on
a click, using the trigger timing on custom animation. How do you
"create a box with info in it that fades into view as soon as the rollover
occurs"?

Thanks! Both are great ideas! I agree with you in that the Org chart creater
in PowerPoint is a bit cumbersome and ugly,...I almost NEVER use it.

You asked: How do you "create a box with info in it that fades into view as
soon as the rollover
occurs"?

I replied: All you do is create a shape (make it no fill/no line) lay it
over wherever you want....or really you can type in words or create an
object or image or anything....

Now create another box with your verbiage in it or whatever you want in
it....and choose an animation effect for it's entrance to your slide...Once
you do that,...go into the effect's timing options and choose "trigger" and
start effect on click of: then choose the object that you want to click on
to start the fade in effect of the other object....

done. You can also then set it to hide after the animation or next click or
whatever...

Works beautiful in show mode....

The down side to this is that when looked at in edit mode,...the box is
there for all to see....
