Hi,

Is there a way to search my entire hard drive for pop up blocker
software. I am trying to download some software and it is not letting
me do so. Says that I have a pop up blocker installed. Problem is
that I have turned off all the ones I know of. I only remember using
the built in IE and Google Tool bar versions. I know I have turned
these off.

I have tried holding down the Control Key and then tried holding down
the Shift key. I have also gone through my Add/Remove Programs and
Program Files searching for Pop Up Software.

I am stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

Dave,

Are you using Spy Sweeper? If so, it will block some downloads.

Hi Dave,
Right click yor IE icon on your Desktop and select properties from the drop
down menu/List.
On the IE properties window click on Privacy and go down to the Option Titled:
Pop-up Blocker and set to Medium to block most unwanted pop-up for you.
Under Notifications and Fiter Level check these Option check Box;
[ ] Play a sound when a pop-up is blocked
[ ] Show Information Bar when a Pop-Up is Blocked
As Viki said if you have another Software installed with pop-up blocker can
contribute to this Error Message and they have Options Menu you can configure
them to allow or disallow a pop-up.
HTH.
Please let us know your findings.
Regards.

I am totally stumped here. I have every possible pop up blocker
un-installed or turned off that I know of. I have cleared out my
cookies and temp files. Still no go.
To add to the mix, I can try to use FireFox to open up the site, but it
requires Java to be running. When I try to tell Java to allow FireFox
to use Java to run apps, I get a message saying that either the install
of FireFox is bad, which it isn't, or that I need an administrator to
change the option and I am the only administrator/person using the
machine. Frustrating.

Dave

This is possibly not the best advise, but if you feel comfortable that the
site and software is virus free, you can try going into your Start menu and
removing checkmarks from all but 2-3 of the bare necessity files needed to
download. Once downloaded, go back and redo the checkmarks. When we were
still on Win98SE, this was the only way I was ever able to do a full
Scandisk.

Hi Dave,

Go to Start, Run. Type in: msconfig -- To the right, click on the
Startup tab. After you remove the checks, you will need to reboot for this
to take effect. Keep track of the checks you remove because you will need
to put them back in when you're finished.
