this question is likely futile, but I'll ask anyway.

is there a way to stop the pop up advertisements?

Aside from a 3rd party program or using antoher browser
that DOES give you the option to block popups (Opera or
Mozilla to name 2) - no.

The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).
