I am running windows xp thru explorer and I keep getting
this annoying pop up.. It is always in the center of the
screen and is a 4" by6" ad. at the top it gives the
correct date and time and in the window part it always
says cannot be displayed.. does anyone know where this
might come from and how to delete it for good...It pops up
every 15-20 min.. thanks

Greetings --

Have you used Task Manager to identify what application or process
is causing the pop-up?

The solution is to switch to Netscape 7.1
By allowing tabbed viewing, providing a zoom feature for text, and
featuring a built-in popup stopper, Netscape 7.1 has left IE smothered
in dust.

I disagree with the Netscape statement. To stop most pop-
ups in XP is really quite simple. SpywareBlaster is free
as well as NoAdHosts. BhoDemon and HijackThis are also
excellent programs but require a little more knowledge and
skill to use. SpyBot Search and Destroy has a built in
immunize but the SpywareBlaster is more thorough.Do a
search for these and be sure you have your firewall
enabled as well. Have fun

I disagree with the chap that disgrees with me, but if you're adamant
about sticking with IE, try this first:
Goto : All Programs\ Administrave Tools\ Services.
Double click on Messenger, then proceed to disable it.

This will stop all popups that are the product of the Messenger service.

Good luck.

What't not clear is the root cause of this so-called Pop-up. It might
be some nefarious software and not just a popup. To be prudent, check
for computer viruses and spy-ware using the conventional tools available
for this (Norton, Ad-aware, etc.)

A good solution for popups in IE, which has some add-on benefits for use
of Google, is to add the Google Tool bar and turn-on popup eliminator.
See http://toolbar.google.com/

Yes but that still leaves the computer open on the Internet.
A firewall is essential.
