How do you get rid of these new pop-up ads. They simply
appear on your screen and ask you to purchase a way to
stop them. Since the info does not come from Microsoft I
have not done anything. Please let me know how to get rid
of them if I can

Sincerely,

Jim

Briefly. Make sure you are running a firewall. Run something like Adaware or
SpyBot S&D on your computer to clean out all the spyware junk, then install
a pop up stopper such as the excellent free one from Google. You may also
want to review your privacy and security settings in Internet Explorer and
take advantage of using the trusted Web Content Zoned for your oft visited
safe sites while increasing levels on internet zone. --- Steve

I wrote a popup stopper too & runs in the .NET Framework.

This is what you want to do.

Admin rights.

Go into Control Panel (START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL)
Click ADMIN TOOLS
Click SERVICES.
Scroll down till you find MESSENGER
Double-click it, & a dialog appears.
Press STOP to stop the service
Choose DISABLED from the list (Manual/automatic/disabled)
Click OK

Job Done - No more popups.

My program stops the Messenger Service, but doesn't
Disable it, and its free. It does exactly the same as the
ones you pay for, but I won't rip you off.

Drop me an e-mail if you want a copy of my program for
free.
