I thought when we got our new Dell with windows xp there
was protection from pop up adds... Now we are absolutely
bombarded with them. I do not know what the kids or I
have done, and maybe I am confused, but these are in
excess... HELP.. If there is a protection device I am
missing please let me know. THANKS Kathleen

Hi, Kathleen,
You just need to turn on the XP firewall to help stop the ads.
Go to the control panel, double click Network Connections, right click Local
area connection, click Properties, click Advanced, click the box - Protect
my Computer........................

If you don't want to activate your firewall then you can always go to
www.panicware.com and download their free pop up stopper program. I
use this and have never had any popups appear.

That prevents internet pop-ups only. It has NO effect whatsoever on
Messenger Service advertising.

that's fine if the pop-ups are Browser based, but if they are messenger
spam, then a pop-up stopper only treats the symptoms, not the cause.
What's the big deal in "not wanting to activate XP firewall" anyway? the
thing is seamless, and people don't even know it's there!

You could try changing browser
netscape (http://www.netscape.com/)
and Opera (http://www.opera.com/)
have built in pop-up stoppers

And precisely how would this "method" prevent messenger service
spams?
