POP Peeper is an email notifier that runs in your
Windows task bar and alerts you when you have new
email on any of your POP3, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo,
Mail.com, MyWay, Excite, Lycos.com, or RediffMail
accounts. You can also use POP Peeper to read and
delete your email. POP Peeper supports HTML email,
so you can see your email the same way as you would
in your email client. Several options are available
that will decrease or eliminate the risks of reading
your email (viruses, javascript, webbugs, etc). If
you share your computer, you can password-protect
your accounts or password-protect access to POP Peeper.

If whales are so damned clever why do they

I already use Pop Tray, but decided to try this as there is not a plugin
for Yahoo mail in Pop Tray yet.

Unfortunately, the Yahoo web mail failed with an "unknown error" in Pop
Peeper. The POP3 and Hotmail worked fine.

With web mail access, Peeper 'phones home', and transfers some info, at
first webmail visit, and thereafter every 30 days - the help file
explains it (is it the whole truth ?), but that is something I am not
comfortable with, especially as the program has my email account and
password in it.

As it does not do as much (rules-wise) as Pop Tray I will stick with Pop
Tray. And Pop Tray does NOT phone home.

I am the developer of POP Peeper, and I can assure you that nothing of
any relevance is being sent. To show that I have nothing to hide,
here is a real-life example of such a request (using a packet
sniffer):

GET /validate.php?pf=41&num=15&a=R&b=I&c=a&d=3&e=Q&f=U&g=5&h=D&i=O&j=K&k=m&l=Y&m=v&n=A&o=K&data=2304578460118355
HTTP/1.1.
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows).
Host: www.poppeeper.com.
Cache-Control: no-cache.
..

Most of the information being sent is information to decrypt the
'data' parameter. The 16-character 'data' value is encoded in 2-byte
hex, which means the actual data is only 8 bytes. And do you really
think I could compact any kind of useful information into 8 or even 16
bytes? :)

I completely understand your concern and your reason for not wanting
to use PP. I put a lot of consideration into it because I realized
people would have concerns over it. And if you want to discuss it
more (or your Yahoo problem) I encourage you to start a topic in the
POP Peeper forums:
