Pop Goes the Gmail is a freeware program that enables one to retrieve
Gmail emails using any POP3 email program. Have been using PGtGM 1.0
with satisfying results until lately. Apparently Google has changed
how Gmail accounts can be accessed, and now PGtGM doesn't work any
more.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative?

There already is a thread on the forums about this... it seems to be
rather easy to fix, but the developer seems to be off on holidays.
