I have about 250 MB of space available on a pop-3 server and a few email
addresses. Wht I want to know is that if pop-3 saves all the emails with the
client , why is my server utilization upto 70%.

server utilization? Disk space or processor utilization?

If you're referring to disk space, there are only four ways I know of to
deplete disk space on the server for POP3.

1. The user makes a POP3 connection but has their email client set to leave
the messages on the server. However, the issue is with POP3, it only checks
for unread messages in INBOX. Once the message is read, it is no longer
'unread.' The client downloaded a copy but told the server not to delete it
so it is still there but you cannot see it from the client.
2. The user has not checked mail in a long time and a mailbox size limit is
not set.
3. The POP3 server also supports IMAP4 and the client is using IMAP4 instead
of POP3.
4. Mail is not the issue. Activity is being logged and the log files have
not been tended to.
