When I'm doing something while listening to music on my computer (cd or on computer) when I'm scrolling down looking at things, the music becomes slower and crackles alot. Why does it do this? It didn't used to do this

Hi Richie,

You mentioned that this didn't happen before, but that it happens now.
Before what? Is there a particular event with your computer that you
recall before this started? Have you installed anything or changed your PC
configuration in the meantime?

I do have some suggestions for you to try, if you'd like.

Make sure you have the most current drivers for your sound card.
Install the latest version of DirectX from Windows Update

If you still experience problems with the audio after the updates, try
slowing the hardware acceleration on the sound card:

1. Click Start, Run, and type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and press
<ENTER>.
2. When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool completes it's information collection
about your system, click on the Sound tab.
3. Adjust the slider down from Full Acceleration to Standard Acceleration.
4. Close the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and see if the problem persists.

Please let me know how that works for you!

Yes, I have done both of these and they both don't seem to make a difference. I remember changing my 'screen resolution' and just after that, thats about the time it changed, I also downloaded Kazaa but have got rid of it now.

Hello Richie,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have some more quesstions, and more ideas.

What media player are you using to play your music?
What machine are you using, and what sound card does it have?
Have you run any spyware applications to make sure no application is using
your resources? There are a few you can get from download.com that can scan
your system for spyware and remove them.

Now for some more suggestions! :-)

Attempt to run a defrag on your computer. The quickest way do this is to
you run defrag from a command line:
1. Click Start, Run "cmd" (without the quotes)
2. In the command line, type "defrag <whatever your drive letter is> /f"
This will force a defrag on your computer. At this point you may want to
take a break, nap, or otherwise and check it much later. The longer its
been since you defragged, the longer this process will take.

Try using a different media program and see if you still get the same
problem.

Please let me know how that works, and please get back to me with that
information so I can start doing some more investigation for you!

I'd bet that you have 256MB or less RAM. Upgrade to 512MB. Fry's Electronics (outpost.com) has 512MB for about $60-70.

My computer is Windows XP. It had 128MB RAM, but then I upgraded it and added anohter 256MB on. i don't know what my sound card has, and I don't know what spyware applications are.
