poor sound on XP

I have bad sound thru media player, sound hags usually when using the mouse
I have 512 of ram. A friend suggested buying a separate sound card instead
of using the motherboard (Epox) one
Anyone have any suggestions on this please.

If you do buy a soundcard, consider going with a major brand - and not a
discounted unknown. This could save time and frustration later.
 
What sort of motherboard do you have?
Is it an nforce2-based motherboard (eg epox 8rda)?
A lot of people experienced problems at one point or
another with the sound drivers in various versions of the
nvidia UDP (unified driver package). If it is an nforce2,
try downloading the latest UDP from nvidia or hit
somewhere like www.nforcershq.com for more help/info.
