Client has to wait 2-3- minutes before a shortcut to a doument (docx, xlsx,
pdf) opens.

First starting the application and then opening the document is no problem.
Neither is browsing to the document (on network share) and doubleklicking it.

Just openin it with the shortcut on the desktop is veryyyyyy slow.

Hi Henry,

Thank you for your posting.

Given the current situation, could you please help me confirm following
points?

1. Does it work properly after clearing out temporary files?
2. Does it work properly in Safe Mode?

If the issue still persists, please let me know the following points:

3. Is it a work computer or home computer? If it is a work computer, does
it join a domain? Only one computer has the issue?
4. If you put the shortcut in a different folder (not desktop), does the
issue occur?

Once I get your reply, I will take a research on it and reply to you as
soon as possible.

Thanks.

Oeps my reply didn't get posted?

@1 no change
@2 Yes
@3 It's a work computer in a domain, It is only one machine, it doesn't
matter if the file is local or on a network share. It is not office related
(e.g. PDF also)
@4 Same problem

Is it *any* document? Or just the three types you mentioned?

Are the names of these files very long and do they contain spaces, by
any chance?

Yes all type of files are affected.

i tested it with a short name without spaces, but the same problem

thx.

Hopefully, Robinson can help you find the solution.

If not, perhaps you can create a new profile on that PC and see if the
problem persists or not. If it doesn't, at the very least you can have
the client use the new profile and the problem will have been fixed (if
not solved).

Good luck, Henry.

Hi Henry,

I agree with Daave. On your previous post, you confirmed the issue
disappear when using Safe Mode. I suspect a software/add-ons conflict issue
cause the problem. It is recommended to take a clean boot to narrow down
the problem.

How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP

Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been
disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration
Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment., if the issue
disappears, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry
is causing the issue.

Does it work?

Thanks.

Hi,

Tried the diagnostic boot (only essential stuff) with msconfig, startup is a
bit quicker but still not normal. System is a bit more responsive while
waiting for the application to open the document.

HI Henry,

Thank you for your reply. I have made a summary for current situation.

1. The issue doesn't occur in Safe Mode.
2. The issue still persists in Normal Mode.

According to this summary, I suspect this issue is a third party software
confect problem.

Did you install any Windows shell or with Windows Explorer plus software?
Do you have any antivirus or security software? If possible, could you
please temporarily remove them to test the issue?

On the other hand, you can run Process Explorer to monitor which program
could cause the problem.

1. Click the link below.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

2. Click "Download Process Explorer (1.6 MB)" at the bottom of the window,
please download and save it onto the Desktop..
3. Right click and extract "ProcessExplorer.zip" to the Desktop.
4. Open the extracted folder of "ProcessExplorer", double click
"procexp.exe".
5. Click Agree to open it.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Doesn't "Microsoft Online Support" know better than to keep snipping out a
post's history, thus removing all context?

Hi,

I took way to much time, so we decided on a reinstall. As a final resolution
i tried a repair.

That solved the problem (startup from cd, install and then choosing repair)
After that IE was nog working, so installed ie7 -> no go so i installe dIE8
and now everything works like a charm.
