Hi NG,

I'm using Windows Movie Maker 2 to edit and merge Videos recorded with my
camera (Mustek MDC 5500Z, produces AVI videos with Audio IMA ADPCM).

When I import one of these Avis with Movie Maker (it creates a clip) then
the sound quality is so heavily reduced, that it is nearly impossible to
understand what anybodys says on that video.

I did not found any setting to configure audio quality.

Can anybold help?

Regards,
Mark

Hi there,

Do you know what the data rate and sampling rate is for your audio.

Are you performing the capture of video using MM2.

What type of connection exists between Computer and Camera

I'm not certain of the numbers just now, but if I set my camera to use the
lower audio settings (12bit I think) instead of the normal setting of
16bit, the results in Movie Maker are just terrible.

I just checked the default of my new SONY TRV460 and the
default is 12 bit (2 stereo sounds). The option for 16
bit (1 stereo sound with high quality) has a little
musical note next to it so I'd have to assume its for
video shots with lots of audio to go with it especially
if music is involved. Right now I am just filming my
babbling 8 month old daughter. Since I haven't
transferred enough video to see what setting is going to
give good or bad audio should I always set to 16 bit?
What is gained or lost with each setting depending on the
audio involved? Is 12bit better for conversational audio?
Can't see what I'd lose as far as file size is concerned.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

The two sets of 12 bit stereo tracks are meant to let you do something like
add a narration onto the video while it's still in the camcorder, not
overlaying the audio that is included when shooting footage.

Most never use that narration track.... and if you are doing computer-based
editing, you're probably not using it either.... so the option for a single
16 bit stereo track removes the second track and puts more quality into the
single stereo track that's recorded.

And the 16 bit aligns more with what Movie Maker would like to see.
