hi all,
i don't know if i have messed things up or if this is a
winxp idio.
over the last few months i have been playing with several
different network cards (netgear, realtec, etc)(all fast
ethernet nic 10/100). i have noticed that when i go into
device manager (even in safe mode as administrator) every
network card i have ever installed is listed. that is as
long as i have a card installed. if no card is installed
no cards are listed. i have tried uninstalling cards
that are listed but are not physically installed and
get "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be
required to boot up the computer". under "network
adapters" in device manager i have listed "Direct
Parallel, several network cards, and five different "WAN
MiniPort"s. if i try to uninstall any of these items i
get the same message listed above. is there a way i can
clear these and start all over?
as for modems.....no matter what i put in for a modem
(always 56k v92 just different brand names) it is always
read as "HSP56 MicroModem". sometimes they work and
sometimes they don't. usually the reason they don't is
because of "open port" issues.
any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris
