Lets see if the chipset has anything to do with fastwrites being a positive or negative experience.

P4B266 845D fastwrites does virtually nothing doesn't hurt doesn't help.

Helps a little on IC7 -- Intel 875P
Disabled by default on KT7A -- VIA KT133A
 
heres a weirdy,,, 845D doesn't support fastwrites in award bios(no control setting)....ATI fastwrites control button is
Activated..go figure

Same on my 845E. It is enabled by default with no option to disable it
is my guess.

I cant enable it. I have the option but it flips back to off after reboot

MSI KT4V/VIA KT400: Fast writes on/off toggle available in BIOS. Turning it
OFF causes performance drop of 2-3%, BUT there is noticeable texture tearing
in the 3DMark2001 game tests (Game 2 and Game 3) and Windows Mouse pointer
corruption (few extra random pixels in the mouse pointer)??!
