Policy problem after W2K re-install

Thank you in advance for all of your help regarding this
matter.

Recently, it was necessary to re-install W2K on one of
our servers when a stop error would not permit the server
to boot.

Ever since the W2K re-install, I cannot add/remove
programs via the administrator account. The error
message that pops up when attempting to remove a program
is the following:

'The installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact
your system administrator.'

The server still has the same GPO applied to it as
before.

Has anybody had a similar problem following a W2k re-
install or have any suggestions?

Once again, all of your help is greatly appreciated by
this entry-level recent college grad.

I think this error doesn't always indicate a policy configuration issue. try
running gpresult /v to see whether you can see any policy that might be
related to this.
I think the best thing to do would be to post this question also in a
windows setup or windows installer newsgroup as well.

HTH,
-Shaji.

There is a gpresult tool (I think it is in platform SDK) that does a similar
thing for w2k.
BTW, the newsgroup for windows installer (microsoft.public.windows.msi).
Somebody there will be of better help, I believe.

HTH,
-Shaji.

Hi Patrick,

The gpresult.exe found on the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit companion CD
works fine on my computer running Windows 2000 Professional.

gpresult is one of the "Windows 2000 > Technical Resources > Resource Kits: Free
Tool Downloads". For more information, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article:

KB274305 - Free Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tools for Administrative Tasks
