I just got this drive and thought it was a great deal...so who really
makes this drive?

Why does Polaroid not feature this drive on their site yet?

What have your experiences been so far?

Thanks

Could you be a bit more specific?
Didn't like the color scheme?
Poor software?
Too slow?
Made coasters with good media?
Wasn't recognized?

Your review doesn't say anything except that you didn't like it.

The drive would read just about anything you could throw at it...even
badly recorded CDs. It made DVD=/-R/RW fine just one major problem...

....it could not create a useable CD!!! Yes ...a CD!!!! WTF!!!!

I ended up getting Iomega's Super DVD....great product!!! Even creats
DVD-RAM!!!

Did you have any problem burning CDs with it?

I checked their website. They say that it comes with their own
software for burning CDs. Is that what you used? They also say that
there could be conflicts if you have more than one burning package
installed.

According to the FAQ, "only retail versions of Adaptec (Roxio) Easy CD
Creator 5.2 and up supports the Polaroid burner. Please use the NTI
CD-Maker 2000 program included with your burner."

It's not clear if these comments refer to their CD burner only or
their DVD burner, and they don't mention other common packages such as
Nero.

So I'd like to have some idea about your configuration and what you
tried so I can decide if this drive makes sense.

Also, I can't seem to find what software they include. If anybody
knows that, please post it.

Yeah I only used the software that came with it...Roxio's deal.

This drive absolutely sucks!!!! My Iomega SuperDrive has been very
very impressive so far. I've just started to mess around with
DVD-RAMs and I tell you it's awesome....the DVD-RAM works just like a
disk drive...I only wish the compatibility of DVD-RAM is better...ah
well.

Go get the Iomega drive...I got it with rebate discounts to a total of

$150!!!!! What a deal. I always try to use XP's native capabilities
first before trying 3rd part stuff. XP does DVD-RAM natively too!!!
Way cool!

Actually, $150 is a ripoff--the Iomega drive is a rebadged LG GSA-4040B
which newegg has in stock for $140 in retail packaging and lists in OEM
packaging for $125--unfortunately they're out of the OEMs at the momen.

They _did_ have it in stock for $140 when I checked. It was the OEMs at
125 that they were out of. Don't know if you've ever dealt with
Newegg--if they say it's 125 and out of stock it will be 125 or less
when it is _in_ stock. I've seen them reduce prices more often than
increase them, and on the rare occasion that they do increase a price it
is almost always on a product on which everybody else had to increase
the price at about the same time.

That should go without saying. LG's television division is known
as "Zenith" and they make most of the products that IBM sells in the
Korean market including heavy iron (protectionist legislation--IBM has
to manufacture the products in Korea and rather than building a new
factory that they don't need they license everything to LG) so their QC
is to IBM standard. Their products are good, their prices are
low, and when there _is_ a problem they generally go after it. Been
using their stuff for more than 10 years now and never had a problem.

The point I was making was that Iomega was taking the LG drive and
sticking a label and a surcharge on it, and that if you don't need the
Iomega software then the LG is a better deal.
