Pointer Pauses Before Moving

When I move the pointer across the screen of my XP Home
machine, it often moves with a delay. That is, I'll move
my finger across the touch pad, and for perhaps a quarter
second, the pointer doesn't move. Then it catches up to
where it should be, but it's a very unworkable
situation.

I've tried seeing if it's particular applications being
open, but it's more sporadic than that. It feels like
all of the system resources are being used for something
momentarily, over and over. But it will happen when I
only have, for example, Word open. I have 512 MB of RAM
in this machine, so I don't imagine that would be the
source of the problem. If anyone has any suggestions on
this, I would be very thankful!

Have you tried adjusting settings for the touchpad yet? May find this in
Control Panel (classic view)> Touchpad or a shortcut in the Start Menu. If
using an animated cursor set, try a more basic selection. May want to check
for updates for the touchpad software too.
