I play games at www.pogo.com. Since all the recent MS
updates, I cannot enter the site-(page cannot be
displayed etc.) I have tried everything I know, and I am
not a novice. I am now using Mozilla and Netscape. both
work fine. I tried several other IE based browsers, but
none of them allowed me to enter that site. Pogo is a
java site and i did DL Java 1.4.2_01. that did not help.
I reset all my explorer settings to allow all
adware,spyware,cookies, still no luck.

I give up!!!!!!!

Hi Howie.

Answer to your question.

First delete all host files from your computer also
temporary internet files and cookies.

Here are the steps to delete host files:

1) From the Start menu on your computer, click Search. (In
some versions of Windows®, you must click Find.)

2) Select All files and folders. (Some versions of Windows
list this option as Files or Folders.)

3) Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) in the file name
box and click Search. (Some versions of Windows list this
as Find Now.)

4) Once you locate the "hosts" file within your Windows or
WINNT directory, right click the file and click Delete.

Note:- Please delete all the host files inculding lmhost
files, if u are unable to delete it please close all the
internet explorer browser.

Then open Internet Explorer type ::-- www12.pogo.com or
www6.pogo.com

This will fix your issue.

Please reply once your issue is resolved .

Pogo.com is an ad generated site that "requires" doubleclick and several
other tracking servers.
When doubleclick and the others are blocked you can not access the games on
that site.

So it's either don't go there or use the "toggle method" to access the
games? [ugh!]
Their "privacy policy" and Terms of Use" pages are downright scary!

Hello, my PC was running just perfect until I downloaded
the newest Windows Updates. Now, a couple of things are
happening, and NOT happening. After downloading the
updates, and then performing the restart, things were not
the same.
I hookup to the net by way of telephone DSL, which I get
thru AOL, by way of Verizon. I also have dialup as well.
When I connect to the web with dialup, all is well........
though Slow, of course.
Now when I hookup with DSL, I can only browse with the
Aol IE running, and can't do any downloading. If I click
on the "Big Blue E", to startup the stand alone IE v6.0 or
Mozilla, it won't load a page at all. Also, while on the
DSL, I can't download anything, files or Windows patches.
I also can't access any webpages that use JAVA either.
They just sit there like their in neutral. The only way to
use Java on those pages that need it, is to use dialup
only.
Now, I'm running a home network with a Linksys wireless
router, though at the moment, I'm the only PC hooked up,
and thats with an ethernet wired connection. I have tried
tons of things. Some people and web-help sites have said
that Norton can act funny sometimes, so just uninstall and
then restart the PC. After rebooting they said to just
reinstall Norton....... been there, done that.......
Nuttin' ... no change at all. I even resorted to doing a
complete C:\drive reimaging, to correct any software bugs.
Believe it or not, I still can't download. I have reloaded
Java, Aol software too.
Then I started thinking.... can't be software......
Maybe it's hardware? Since using regular dialup, is
actually bypassing the router all together. I checked all
wire connections and they are fine. I think, maybe it's
the router? I checked all the settings and their just
fine. I brought the router next door to my friends house.
It works just fine on his PC. Remember, I can access the
DSL connection through the router. I just can't download
anything or get Java to run or IE6.0 to work anymore.
I truely hope I've given enough info to have you
identify and solve this for me, or at least steer me in
the right direction. I'm not getting my monies worth this
way, I know that. I have searched many tech help sites and
read myself BLUE in the face. The Microsoft help sites ,
are NO HELP.
If nobody has the answer to this Dilema, then my final
question is, can I reload WinXPhome, over my existing
copy, without losing all my settings and tweaks as well.
Will it copy over any data? I will do a defrag, just
before reloading, just to compact the data, as much as
possible.

I'm running>winXP-home, with all the service packs and
patches>InternetExplorer6.0>AsusA7V333>1.8GhzAthlonXP>512DD
Rmemory.
Thanks, Gilly
